It is possible to have conversations with people who think differently than you and be able to have those conversations gracefully, gently, calmly, and depart friends. 

When we do this, we allow people to bring the full expression of who they are into a conversation. We have the opportunity to learn from each other and how we grow together. We can do all this, and part friends.
